Creative Team

Artistic Director

Born in California, Steven received his training in New York, Los Angeles and London. Some of the musicals he appeared in in the USA include Gypsy and A Chorus Line. Before coming to Germany in 1991 to join Starlight Express, he was dance captain for the European tour of West Side Story. For six years, he had various jobs with Starlight Express, first as part of the cast, then as dance captain assistant, and eventually also behind the scenes as artistic director. In 1997, he joined Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as assistant to the artistic director. There he could also be seen as cover for the roles of all eleven brothers. Two years later, he took over directing the evening performances as well as the choreography of Saturday Night Fever in Cologne. In spring of 2001, Steven Rosso signed his second contract as artistic director with Starlight Express in Bochum. In addition, at the beginning of 2006, he was engaged as associate director/choreographer to develop the Starlight Express - The 3rd Dimension tour in Great Britain.

Director of Choreography

The popular dancer and choreographer studied jazz dance and ballet with Matt Mattox, Molly Molloy, and Arlene Phillips in London. She worked for ten years in Great Britain as the choreography assistant to Nigel Lythgoe for innumerable TV shows. She has worked with The Jackson Five, Abba, Tom Jones, Gene Kelly, Boney M., Cliff Richard, and Joan Collins. In Germany she worked for Udo Jürgens, René Kollo, Kurt Felix’ Verstehen Sie Spass, and Dieter Thomas Heck’s Melodien Für Millionen. She has also delighted the Queen, Princess Diana, and Prince Charles with her performances. Debbie Hearnden has also long since made a name for herself in Dutch television entertainment programs. Among other things, she choreographed an eight-part TV series. She has been taking care of Starlight Express in Bochum since the beginning back in 1988. Besides continual dance training with the cast, managing the choreography in the annual auditions is part of her responsibilities.

Roller Skate Trainer, Race Supervisor

For more than 25 years, the native Californian has been absorbed with the sport of roller skating. In the USA, he has received many prizes and awards for his work. Michal directed the roller skating scene in the film The Butcher's Wife as well as working in numerous other film and TV productions. His experience in training roller skate champions led him to being signed not only for the first Broadway production of Starlight Express in 1987 but also for the subsequent USA tour as well as. Since then, Michal has been recognized internationally as an expert and has overseen all Starlight Express productions worldwide. In 2005, he took over directing the roller skating scenes in the Starlight Express - The 3rd Dimension tour in Great Britain, which was filmed in 3D for the first time. Every year since the start of Starlight Express in Bochum, he has assumed the responsibility of roller skate training each new cast. He teaches them multiple turns, daring falls, and, not least of all, to master a two meter high slope while maintaining an almost vertical position. His book, Skating The Starlight Express, was published in 2009. The coach has also been passing on his knowledge to roller skate fans via video streams since 2010.
